Born June 20, 1960 in Urbana, Illinois to Richard and Marcia DeSa (actual delivery time, 5:29 pm, meaning Dad made it back to the hospital for the actual moment of birth, after taking finals (completing his first year of graduate school at UIUC).

After following parents from Urbana to Philadelphia to Ithaca, settled in Athens, Georgia at the age of 8. Graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in English. Was known throughout the English department for turning in 'computer generated' essays. Worked for Dad (founder of Olis) on weekends in exchange for time on said computer (NorthStar Horizon). Got hooked on writing 'high tech' letters, technical manuals, etc., and opted against graduate school for a 'really cool job writing letters to smart people.'

Married William Walter Lorenz, April 26, 1986, who completed his doctorate in biochemistry in 1990 and who now raises Percherons for fun and profit when not working at the University of Georgia's School of Forestry.

Favorite things in life: my husband and extended family, National Public Radio, reading, writing, yoga, working for a company that has a brain and a heart.
