Julie Ann DeSa Lorenz Vice-President of Marketing and Communications
Start Date: 1983
As the daughter of our founder. Dr. Richard J. DeSa, I had the opportunity to start working here while I was still in college at the University of Georgia in the early 1980s. Early on, I answered the phones and typed correspondence. Eventually, I was writing the manuals, attending the meetings, and developing the sales and marketing materials. My most recent achievement was bringing in Dan Lowring to lead the company.
Digging through the albums, here’s a photo of me and my beloved computer in perhaps 1985 and another taken in 1991 with my beloved niece helping out. Within a few years, we outgrew my parent’s home and moved to our current location on the outskirts of Athens, Georgia. Here I am in 1997, shown with the two computers I routinely used, busy on one while the other behind me churned through another activity.
My husband is a biochemist and research scientist at the University of Georgia, where his work in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources focuses on gene discovery and transcriptional profiling in loblolly pine. We share our home with a happy assortment of dogs, cats, chickens and Percherons.
