Two Breakthrough
Spectrophotometers, June 2009
Two unique spectrophotometers are now available for facilitating
high throughput studies of macromolecules and living whole cells.
--first requested by Prof Russell Middaugh of the University of Kansas provides an extremely high throughput means of capturing informative data on samples undergoing thermal denaturation. Simultaneously, this TWIN RSM 1000 spectrometer (two DeSa monochromators) collects dual beam CD, rapid-scanning emission and scatter, and absorbance spectra.

--first requested by Prof Leslie Costello of the University of Maryland and co-editor of "Mitochondria and Cancer" employs a DeSa RSM for collecting up to 100 scans per second to spectrophotometrically record activity of the electron transport chain within highly turbid suspensions of whole cells! With two RSMs, the apparatus simultaneously acquires 100 absorbance and 100 emission scans per second!
