This sequence results in minimal temporal dispersion between sample and reference signals. Now the signals are R₂, S₁, D_R, and S₂, R₁, D_S—that is, the sample and reference signals—are as close together in time as possible, minimizing the effects of a change in the detector's output. Only the order of the six numbers is altered. The calculation (and thus the answer) is the same, but with a reduced potential for error.
