Olis-Our-Company

OLIS, Inc. – originally On-Line Instrument Systems, Inc. – was founded in 1974 by three young biochemists with expertise in optics, electronics, and the young field of computer programming. Today, this privately-held American company continues to serve the biophysical, biochemical, and bioenergetics fields with absorbance, fluorescence, and circular dichroism spectroscopy for sophisticated research and routine measurements.

For decades, our quiet and agile corporation has developed and delivered absorbance, fluorescence, and circular dichroism spectrophotometers for kinetic and steady-state studies worldwide. Our newest product line – the CLARiTY series – has eliminated the previously insurmountable barrier to accurate absorbance spectroscopy of turbid samples.

Kristi comes to Olis, Inc. with a BSA in Biological Sciences (2001) and a MS in Toxicology (2003), both from the University of Georgia. Kristi is responsible for the sales and marketing of our Vintage line of instrumentation including the Aminco, Cary, HP, PE, and SLM upgrades.

Paul Boxrud came to Olis from Vanderbilt University where he was a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Paul Bock. Paul received his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry under Dr. Lawrence Berliner.

Programming

George began his career as a software developer in 1991 after graduating from CPI. Hoping to find a company to settle down with, George worked ten years at Atlanta-based Atlantax before coming to Olis in 2008.

Research & Development

R & D Director for entire line of spectrophotometers, spectrofluorimeters, circular dichroism spectrometers, and other spectrophotometric instruments. This work requires expertise in digital computers, optics, electronics, mathematical algorithms, and scientific theory and practice.

Dima’s research focus began with studying enzyme kinetics in Minsk, where he earned is Ph.D. in 2001 from the International State Ecological University Sakharov.

Chris Wilson came to us with a modest resume but a passion for programming. He was writing code “since my pre-teen years, with no formal education.”

As the daughter of our founder Dr. Richard J. DeSa, Julie’s memories of the company start at the beginning, with her father writing the software code and designing the circuit cards and her mother wiring these electronics cards, answering the phones, and typing (on a manual typewriter!) all letters, quotations, purchase orders, and invoices.
